There are numerous tips for cleaning your carpet available, but often the basics are overlooked. First thing to do is ensure you have a quality carpet cleaner available and a lint free carpet to work on. Ensure you hoover the surface first to remove any surface level dirt.
When you set up your carpet cleaner, ensure that the water tank is filled correctly and that any cleaning solutions you wish to use are correctly included. Remove all objects from the room, including furniture and ornaments and start cleaning from the corner of the room, in neat straight lines. This helps to keep a uniform, professional looking carpet. Also, do not press too hard, or rub the carpet with too much pressure as the carpet cleaner can cause damage to the pile if used incorrectly. The fibres in the carpet can become weaker, which will shorten the life of the carpet.
Once the carpet has been thoroughly cleaned, check to ensure there are no other stains left over. If you need to repeat the process one more time just to be sure, now is the best time. When you are happy with the cleaning, allow at least 24-48 hours for the carpet to dry thoroughly. Leave all windows and doors open to ventilate the area properly, which will prevent any mould or mildew growth deep within the fibres.
Once your carpet has been dried thoroughly, you will need to maintain the cleanliness of the pile. Maintain regular hoovering and cleaning schedules to ensure that the dust and dirt does not return to the carpet. By using a carpet cleaner on a regular basis, you can ensure that your home will look new for as long as possible.
